It’s early November, which can only mean one thing – it’s time to start your Christmas shopping! Black Library has a series of festive treats in store for fans of the Words of Warhammer, including not one but two advent calendars, and the story of how Da Red Gobbo became the legendary figure we all know and love.
Black Library Advent Calendar 2021
We start this year’s Black Library Christmas with a sumptuous limited edition advent calendar – though it’s not books you’ll be revealing, but art. It contains 25 A3 art prints featuring the best covers from the last year of Black Library releases.
Some of the prints have simply had the words stripped away to let the incredible art speak for itself, while other prints have been remixed. How? You’ll just have to wait and see – but we promise it’s going to be worth it, as these are ultra-high quality A3 prints in individually numbered sleeves.
It’s the motherlode of beautiful Black Library art for connoisseurs of Warhammer. This is strictly limited to 1,250 copies, and will be available to pre-order from this Saturday, the 6th of November.
Da Gobbo’s Revenge
Meanwhile, we saw Da Red Gobbo’s latest incarnation for the first time on Monday. He’s your revolushunary Christmas chaperone this year, so we decided we needed to know a little bit more about this legendary comrade.
Get ready for Da Gobbo’s Revenge by Mike Brooks, which follows the journey of Fingwit, a lowly and maltreated Grot who rises from the lowliest position in Ork Kultur to become a legend. When the Ork Mek whom he unwillingly serves forces him and his fellow grots to board an Imperial vessel, they’re just a tiny part of a vast war in the void. But Fingwit is presented with the opportunity to become a hero to all Gretchin... Da Red Gobbo.
Da Gobbo’s Revenge is a classic Christmas novella of retribution and revolution, and it’s available to pre-order in hardback and eBook formats from this Saturday.
Advent eShorts 2021
As has become tradition, Black Library will also be releasing a cool dozen eShorts – one for every other day in December, with the last falling on Friday the 24th. Featuring short stories from rising stars and household names alike, this is a smorgasbord of short fiction to enjoy throughout the run-up to Christmas.
These are all new stories from Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and The Horus Heresy. From fan favourites like Ghazghkull Thraka and Eidolon of the Emperor's Children, to newer characters such as Minka Lesk and Drekki Flynt, 2021's Black Library Advent series has something to offer every fan of Warhammer and Black Library.
Among other literary treats, we’ll see Mad Dok Grotsnik on a mission to rebuild the Prophet of Mork and Gork for the sake of all Ork-kind in Mad Dok by Nate Crowley, follow Master Lazarus of the Dark Angels in The Buried Beast by Gary Kloster as he chases down myths from Old Caliban, and watch as Drekki Flynt uncovers more than he bargained for in The Lost Karak by Guy Haley.
As ever, these tales of heroism and woe can be bought individually, or as a subscription – earning you all 12 for the price of 10.
While you’re waiting to learn Da Red Gobbo’s secrets, why not paint up his amazing new miniature? And, of course, this isn’t all that’s available from Black Library over the festive period – there’s the full range of Warhammer fiction across print, eBook, and mp3 formats. Give the gift of reading (about epic heroes and dark gods) this Christmas.
