Black Library has a pantheon of fantastic writers, some of whom have been at it for more than two decades. Graham McNeill is one such legend, and another of his seminal early novels is coming to hardback for the first time ever, with a gorgeous new cover.
Storm of Iron is one of the key texts for understanding the nightmarish appeal of the Chaos Space Marines and their ceaseless hatred for the Imperium. Released all the way back in the mists of time (2002), it is the story of Warsmith Honsou, who leads his Iron Warriors in the devastating siege of Hydra Cordatus.
This is one of the first Warhammer stories to put readers in the perspective of the villains, pitting the Iron Warriors against their mortal enemies, the Imperial Fists.
But what about that new art? Here’s what the custodians of Black Library had to say:
“When creating a new edition of a well-loved classic, the aim is to bring the story to life in a whole new way, while honouring that novel’s legacy. For this new edition of Storm of Iron, this meant spotlighting the fan-favourite character of Honsou, while staying true to the gritty and intense style and colour palette of the original artwork. The result is a brand new cover that lets existing fans step back into battle with the Iron Warriors as well as giving new readers a place to join the siege!”
Storm of Iron is the first book of the Iron Warriors series which consists of half a dozen tales of the trials and tribulations of the uncompromising Warsmith.
Most notable among his foes are the Ultramarines, and the series runs parallel to the tales of Uriel Ventris – another of Graham’s popular subjects. You have to wonder if he has a favourite…
Storm of Iron is on its way and we’ll have the release date soon. Keep checking back with Warhammer Community to find out more.
