For this week’s Sunday Preview we venture into the Underhells with the Van Saar, Spyrers, and Malstrain Genestealers, and raise a flagon of Bugman’s XXXXXX to more Dwarfs coming to the Old World.
The Book of Desolation
Deep within the Dust Wall lie the ruins of Hive Secundus, where the twisted Malstrain Genestealers dwell in defiance of all things holy. There’s treasure to be found there too, so many gangs make the long journey to delve into this terrifying abyss to find their fortune.
The Book of Desolation is a new expansion for Necromunda which furthers the narrative and fills out Hive Secundus with exciting new rules for four gangs: advanced Spyre Hunters, Secundan Incursion Gangs, the Malstrain, and Malstrain Corrupted Gangs. There is a comprehensive multiplayer Underhells Campaign, new Underhells Scenarios, additional rules for the Abyssal Ferryman Teams who offer assistance to those exploring Hive Secundus, new Dramatis Personae, rules for Custom Rigs using the Cargo-8 Ridgehauler chassis, and the Trazior Pattern Sentry Gun.
Van Saar Tek-hunters
House Van Saar are masters of archaeotech and thus unsurprisingly their Secundan Excursion gangs are the first to begin prospecting for treasures in the Underhells. This set contains eight Tek-hunter specialists – two Gunteks, two Augurteks, two Bioteknists, and two Teknomats – each pair can be built with their special gear or in a standard loadout.
Malstrain Genestealer Abomination Gang
The highly corrupted xenoform known as the Malstrain is unique to Necromunda, thanks to the efforts of the now-deceased Heretek Magos Biologis Hermiatus. These twisted Genestealers are no less deadly and will cut even a stimmed-up Goliath brute to shreds in seconds. This box contains six Malstrain Genestealers alongside four Malstrain Tyramites, creatures unique to Necromunda that float around in swarms alongside their larger kin, plus an assortment of Malstrain Brood Scum heads you can combine with other bodies.
Orrus Spyre Hunters
The nobles of House Helmawr often chose to alleviate the boredom of their pampered lives by donning a Spyre Hunting Rig. They undergo extensive body modifications to wear these high-tech suits to allow them to indulge in the savage bloodsport of hunting the Malstrain. The Orrus Hunting Rig is one of the more popular variants, favouring brute strength over any kind of finesse. This box contains two Orrus Spyre Hunters with various weapon options and a Caryatid Prime – winged humanoids considered good luck charms amongst the nobility.
Malcadon, Yeld & Jakara Spyre Hunters
The pugilistic Orrus suit is not the only choice for Spyrers: more specialised suits exist which favour speed and finesse. The Malcadon fights with paired claws and a grapnel launcher, while the Jakara uses a lethal monomolecular sword and a mirror shield. The Yeld darts around with wings, dealing ranged damage with paired laser gauntlets. This box builds one of each, as well as a Spyrer Hunt Master, a fearsome veteran of many hunts who can mix and match loadouts.
Trazior Pattern Sentry Guns
Out in the lawless ruins of Hive Secundus, gangs can get away with using weapons banned in Hive Primus, such as the Trazior Pattern Sentry Guns. Programmed to fire indiscriminately at any nearby target, these weapon platforms will repel hordes of Malstrain Genestealers. This box builds two sentry guns with twin grenade launchers, two with twin heavy stubbers, and two ammo crates and control consoles.
Yageloth, the Master of Whispers
While everyone is busy hunting for powerful new technology in the Underhells, House Delaque continues to embody the will of the Silent Ones in Hive Primus. Yageloth, the Master of Whispers executes the agenda of the House with unparalleled skill as a living embodiment of the Psychoterica. He can transcend his physical form and melt into the shadows before striking with a deadly psychometric blade. This miniature has rules in the House of Shadows and is made from Forge World resin.
Spyre Hunting Party Gang Tactics Cards
Keep your eyes on the prize when you’re hunting big game with the Spyre Hunting Party Gang Tactics Cards. This set of 26 cards contains 18 gang tactic cards for your Spyrer gang, plus eight blank Fighter cards to keep track of your bloodthirsty nobility.
Ogdruz Swampdigga Da Troll Calla
From deep in the foetid swamps of The Old World comes Ogruz Swampdigga Da Troll Calla, a shaman swaddled in the skin of a dead Troll. His close proximity to and strange alliance with these strange creatures has given him the rare ability to use Troll magic in battle, earning him the ire of his Orc allies. This miniature has rules in Arcane Journal: Orc & Goblin Tribes, and is made of Forge World resin.
Dwarf King with Oathstone
Dwarf Kings are powerful warriors who command their vast throngs with years of courage and experience. Some lead the throng atop Oathstones inscribed with runes listing their many deeds and triumphs, imbuing the King with a sense of superiority he will use to issue challenges to unlucky opponents.
Dwarf Slayer of Legend
Dwarfs who suffer terrible failures are forced by their pride to join the Slayer Cult, undertaking self-imposed exile to seek a glorious death at the hands of a worthy foe – axe in hand. The Slayers of Legend represent the fierce and formidable Daemon Slayers and Dragon Slayers, fighters who are too skilled to die and seek out the mightiest foes to meet their doom.
Dwarf Miners
Dwarfs make their homes under the ground and their holds would not exist without Miners to carve out their tunnels and halls. Miners accompany Dwarfen throngs in regiments equipped with picks and blasting charges. This box contains 20 dwarf miners with a command group, four miner’s carts, and a new Dwarfen Mountain Holds transfer sheet with 342 transfers.
Dwarf Cannon & Organ Gun
Dwarf armies use a plethora of potent war machines to spell ruin for their enemies, such as the ever-reliable Dwarf Cannon, or the Organ Gun, which can cut down entire regiments at a time. This plastic kit contains everything you need to build two war machines, either as Cannons or Organ Guns, as well as six crew members and various optional accessories.
Dwarf Gyrocopters
The sight of great dragons swooping from lofty crag to crag is said to have inspired the Gyrocopters. These small vehicles were initially used to deliver supplies to beleaguered settlements, but they are now more frequently deployed in battle to harass enemy flanks with powerful ranged weapons, as Gyrobombers, which pack high-explosive payloads, or as Scout Gyrocopters. This box builds two machines and contains a Dwarfen Mountain Holds transfer sheet with 342 decals.
Warhammer: The Old World Terrain
If you’re looking to spruce up your tabletop, there’s a treat in store next week. Several classic plastic terrain kits are making a triumphant return, including the Fortified Manor of the Empire – which combines a Sigmarite Chapel, an Empire Watchtower, and the Walls & Fences with a bespoke upgrade frame to create a massive centrepiece emblazoned with Empire heraldry. All of the constituent parts (apart from the upgrade frame) will be available to purchase separately, alongside the Arcane Ruins kit, and a pair of plastic Warhammer Hills.
The Hobbit™ Motion Picture Trilogy: Hunt for the Arkenstone: A Middle-earth™ Adventure Game
The Hobbit™ Motion Picture Trilogy: Hunt for the Arkenstone: A Middle-earth Adventure Game is a tight, self-contained, co-operative board game. Thorin Oakensheld and company are looking to return the Arkenstone to the Throne Room while Azog and his followers hunt them down in this tense, action-packed game for two or more players. The box includes everything you need to play, including 15 plastic miniatures representing Thorin and his allies.
Krieg (Special Edition)
The uncompromising Death Korps of Krieg have been deployed to another soul-crushing siege, this time in the Octarius War Zone. Only a force as ruthless and implacable as these can survive a war that seems otherwise unwinnable, but will they once more have to pay a heavy price for victory?
Krieg by Steven Lyons returns in a luxury Special Edition which features a canvas cover with black and white printed art, with black page edges and a brown ribbon bookmark. The short story The Strong Among Us is included, alongside an authorial introduction, and full-colour artwork of the original release’s cover. This is a limited edition release, and each copy is numbered and signed by the author.
On Warhammer+ this week, we’ll be learning how to paint intensely acid green Serpahon for Warhammer Age of Sigmar via Citadel Colour Masterclass, a technique you can apply to any creature or daemon. Loremasters teaches us about the Schola Progenium, the academies that train orphans into Imperial Officials, sometimes becoming Commissars or Inquisitors should their skills bear out.
Warhammer Community will kick the week off with something everyone loves – new miniatures reveals, while we’re returning to Hive Secundus for some hobby and gameplay articles. There’ll aso be news of the next preview – it’s going to be a great week no matter what kind of Warhammer fan you are.
