The Best Ork Stories in the Galaxy (According to Makari)

BLOrks Mar03 Header23onber

Among the many incredible books we showed off in December’s big Black Library preview was a new ork-centric novel showcasing the greatest ork warboss since the Beast arose: Ghazghkull Thraka.

Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh! is coming your way in a few months. To prepare you for it, we’re taking a look at some of the other greenskin tales available from Black Library. Well, we say we… What we mean is we’ve got an excerpt of an Inquisitorial interrogation that might shed some light.

+++INQUISTORIAL INTERROGATION TRANSCRIPT+++

+++INTERROGATOR: LORD INQUISITOR TYTONIDA FALX+++

+++SUBJECT: MAKARI+++

+++TRANSCRIPT BEGINS+++

Falx: You have been identified as the banner bearer of Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. Correct?

Makari: That’s the boss, alright. Best warlord in the galaxy. Beaten everybody, he has. Except that Yarrick git.

Falx: That would be Commissar Sebastian Yarrick, hero of Armageddon?

Makari: We don’t talk about him. Makes the boss all shooty. Him and that wolf boy what chopped off his noggin.

Falx: Ragnar Blackmane?

Makari: That’s him, the zoggin’ menace. Swinging that big chainsword around like he does is dangerous. Said he was forging some sorta Saga of the Beast or summat. Told a good tale, to be fair. Lotsa action and dakka. And not the first time – I heard about this fight when that Blackmane went all killy in the snow and his boys duffed up a whole load of orks in the mountains. Wish I’d seen that. It’s always a laugh watching big ’uns get chopped up.

Falx: You mentioned the Beast. Does that epithet have any relation to the Beast of historical record?

Makari: Eh? I dunno what most of them words means. If you’s asking if the boss is the reinkling… reincarnivore… the Great Beast come back to lead us again, then maybe. That zogger nearly conquered the whole galaxy, you know. The boss said he liked Armageddon because it reminded him of the Beast’s world. Dunno what that was about.

Falx: On Armageddon, Ghazghkull made humans work for him in captured hive cities. Are you aware of any other such prisoners across the galaxy?

Makari: The boss says humies don’t work hard enough, but I heard about some Prisoners of Waaagh! that might be what you’re after. Warboss ’Eadbasha’s lot had them building summat. I think they had an escape or summat. Sounds proper exciting.

Falx: You seem to know a lot about other warbands besides Thraka’s.

Makari: Well yeah, the boss keeps tabs. Needs to know if any of them might take a pop at him, try to pretend they’re the biggest and baddest, you know? Take that Grukk one. He thought his Red Waaagh! was all that, killing their way across the Sanctus Reach

I knew a few boyz in that one, like Uggrim and his Red Sunz. Good lads, them, for mekboyz. They had some adventures. Let me tell you about the time they ended up trapped in the desert, racing to join a new Waaagh! they thought was coming–

Falx: We’re aware of that. It was an Imperial trap.

Makari: You can be right sneaky gits.

Falx: What do you know about a warboss called the Meklord?

Makari: I know he had a good scrap with those metal-loving humies. That fancy git Kaptin Badrukk went and got himself in on it as well. Used some Brutal Kunnin in that one, tore their world up good.

Falx: Yes, the Hephaestus incident. We have a report of the Meklord’s forces attacking an Adeptus Mechanicus warship as well.

Makari: Dunno about that, but did you hear about the time them lady beakies what does all the praying went and attacked Da Big Mouf? That was a Deathskull ship, that was. Big fight, loads of things sploding all over the place. Sounded fun.

Falx: Let’s get back to Ghazghkull Thraka. What can you tell me about his history?
