Talaxis. The Ravening Ruin. The Eye of Chotec. The ruins of the crashed temple-ship at the heart of the Gnarlwood are drawing warbands from all over the Mortal Realms to Ghur, the magnetic allure of its power and riches proving impossible to resist.
Very few ever reach this void-faring behemoth's jade and gold carcass without being waylaid by carnivorous plants, zealous warbands, or deadly traps. But those who are skilled, or lucky enough to breach miles of tangled perimeter and enter the Ravening Ruin clash in combat over ancient and terrible Realmshaper Engines. Powerful reality warping devices cast loose by a Seraphon ship that crashed in ages past.
Functioning Realmshaper Engines are mysterious devices that only the Slann Starmasters truly understand how to utilise on any meaningful level. These ones, however, are so damaged and compromised that any lowly warrior with enough willpower can activate them, saturating the surrounding area with uncontrollable waves of energy.
In Warcry: Nightmare Quest, these Realmshaper Engines have been incorrectly identified as incubators for clutches of dragon eggs by the noble knights of the Royal Beastflayers. Tampering with such potent arcane devices would likely cause a catastrophe, and Sigmar has dispatched the Questor Soulsworn to stop them, like the gold-clad fun police they are.*
In the box, you’ll get a spread of terrain, including a familiar smattering of rubble, ribcages, and bamboo bridges, plus two disconcertingly muscular gnarloaks, and the main event: a battlefield-dominating Realmshaper Engine. Warbands that manage to claim one of these massive constructions often reinforce them with platforms and barriers to guard against would-be invaders.**
Hold onto a triple in your games, and you can use the Power Unleashed ability, blasting nearby fighters with D6 damage (including the daredevil who activated the engine) as the energy that reshapes the very matter of creation is set free. Only the Seraphon’s frequent exposure to these metamorphic magics renders them more resilient to wounding.
You can scrap over these powerful thaumaturgical dynamos to your heart's content with Warcry: Nightmare Quest. The box features all of the above terrain and two complete warbands to wrestle for control of it, and you can pre-order it tomorrow.
* Sigmar is the god most likely to tell you not to run with a sharp object.
** They’re also great for punting people off with a well-placed kick.
