Of all the strange places you can end up at in the Mortal Realms, the varanite mines in the Eightpoints are some of the absolute worst. That’s where you’ll be heading in Warcry: Red Harvest – which is available for pre-order now – so here at Warhammer Community we thought we’d conduct a safety inspection on all of the terrain that’s been packed into the box to ensure that your warbands only have each other to worry about.
What we found was… concerning.
Hazard 1: Lack of Safety Railings
As fun as it looks to be climbing all over the gantries and leaping down on your enemies, the distinct lack of safety railings makes an accidental fall highly likely. We know it looks awesome when you duel an enemy champion on a precarious platform, but all of that lovely detailed metalwork is a tripping incident just waiting to happen.
Hazard 2: Active Machinery in the Work Zone
Although the varanite delve engines are turned off by default, an enterprising fighter is perfectly capable of turning them on thanks to their entirely unsecured valves.
Due to the aforementioned lack of safety railings, active machinery is highly dangerous as fighters can become entangled in the cogs and gears, especially when pushed into them by a wily opponent.
Hazard 3: Raw Varanite is Highly Mutagenic
Although varanite may be safely transported in specialised containers, mines regularly feature open pits of liquid realmstone. This molten varanite is so hazardous that we do not recommend jumping over them unless fighters are a significant distance above them, or can fly.The mortality rate of direct liquid varanite contact has been estimated at a little under 100%, with lucky victims dissolving into puddles of primordial ooze. Unfortunately for warbands aiming to control a delve, haphazard activation of machinery can transform the sluices into raging rivers of death, posing a danger to everyone nearby.*
Hazard 4: Lack of Qualified Personnel
It dawned on us some way into the investigation that no actual mine employees were to be found – it seems that only warbands from across the Warcry roster are brave enough to work these delves.
While this does mean that there’s plenty of room for fighters to skirmish with each other, it does raise the question of who is actually supposed to be operating the mines. With such a high staff turnover and difficulty in mining and transporting the varanite, we can only assume that the bottom line is unstable at best.
As long as they bear these hazards in mind, your warbands should find their trip to the varanite delves a safe and pleasant experience. Warcry: Red Harvest is available to pre-order now, so forward this briefing to your fighters and prepare them for a gruelling struggle to secure precious realmstone for the Everchosen’s favour – safely.
* And especially to anyone mad enough to be running along them.
