White Dwarf has been a cornerstone of the Warhammer hobby for nearly four decades, as reliable as a duardin oath. Occasionally though, Grombrindal gets a mischievous glint in his eye and gives the magazine that bears his name a master-crafted makeover. So here, straight from the forges, is the shiny new White Dwarf.*
Issue 479 doesn’t just look good – it’s also full of fantastic articles and features.
The stars of the show are the Necrons, who receive a Flashpoint Nephilim narrative update in which Imperial forces investigate the threat posed by mysterious Necron Pylons in the Quiescent Threat.
Unfortunately for these intrepid explorers, Necrons don’t like having their stuff poked at. You can bring their gauss to bear in Flashpoint Nephilim: Dynastic Crusade, which features rules for each of the six named Dynasties, including unique Agendas, Requisitions, Battle Traits, and Crusade Relics – well worth clambering out of your dusty tomb a few millennia early.
Over in the Mortal Realms, things are getting decidedly weird in Harrowdeep. Untold numbers of victims have been pulled into its umbral depths, and some have even broken through to the impossible, shifting corridors of the Nethermaze.
The Descent Into Madness Campaign lets you play out the story of a group of warbands navigating that submarine labyrinth. Just grab one (or three) pals, a warband, and a Rivals Deck, and take on the chilling madness beneath the waves in a sequence of games packed with narrative twists and turns.
Meanwhile, The Fate of Barbarus explores all six Legiones Astartes armies preparing for a massive 18,000 point slugfest, with a custom-designed battlefield featuring a crashed Thunderhawk Gunship. That’s war on a scale that only the Warhammer: The Horus Heresy can provide!
White Dwarf 479 goes on pre-order this Saturday, and there’s loads more to look forward to, including miniature showcases, a Warhammer Age of Sigmar campaign, a Warhammer 40,000 Tempest of War Battle Report, and plenty else besides.
* Not really sure forges are the best to be making magazines, but the White Dwarf knows best.
