After a busy year of building and painting awesome miniatures, the Armies on Parade award show is finally here – recognising dedicated hobbyists, like you, who love nothing more than to show off their favourite little guys. Armies on Parade is a competition for the people, the same Warhammer fans you see whenever you pop your head into your local store, and today we’re celebrating our favourite entries from around the world – chosen by a panel of elite judges.
We’re streaming the awards ceremony right here and on the Warhammer YouTube channel, so tune in to find out who scoops the top prizes as they happen.
Individual Winners
1st Place: Andrea Cristini
Andrea’s Gloomspite Gitz demonstrate wonderful contrast between the cool tones of her grots, squigs, and troggoths and the warm fluorescence of their mushrooms. A very eye-catching and atmospheric entry, fully deserving of the gold.
2nd Place: Josh Leak
3rd Place: Ricki Smith
Display Winners
1st Place: Garrett Grover
The cream of the Armies on Parade crop combine immaculate painting with seamless and characterful conversions, and Garrett’s muster of Space Wolves hits every box and then some. From intricately weathered vehicles to the furs, cloaks, and trophies on every single model, this evocative display perfectly blends the savage nature of the Vlka Fenrika with the modern Primaris Space Marines.
2nd Place: Neale Maxwell Talbot
3rd Place: Alek Makucewicz
Team Winners
1st Place: Calthorpe Park School Warhammer Club
Phenomenal work from a team of four students and their teacher, which combines some classic Warhammer 40,000 terrain with a wide selection of miniatures and some great environmental effects. Bonus points for the ominous red light illuminating the Terminators.
2nd Place:
熊仔没有三只手和纳垢灵小绿
3rd Place: Mhairi Parr & Andrzej Walus
Skaventide Winners
1st Place: Keith Robert Jarvis
Keith almost hit a mythical maximum score for this incredible Skaven diorama that places the verminous horde deep within their festering tunnels, complete with a river tainted by warpstone and glorious stalactites reaching from the ceiling. In true Skaven style, it can be hard to tell where the rocky ground ends and the teeming mass of fur and teeth begins – a real achievement that clinched a hard-fought category.
2nd Place: Sebastian Sondermann
3rd Place: Kate Holden
Youngbloods Winners
1st Place: Olly
This warband of Idoneth Deepkin was so good it also won Best in Show at Olly’s local Warhammer store. In particular, it wowed judges with the excellent seafloor terrain and the freehand stripes on several of the sea creatures – no easy prospect even for experienced painters.
2nd Place: Julian
3rd Place: Wesley
Staff Winners
1st Place: Eddie
1st Place: Aidan
3rd Place: Andrew
Judges Choice
Alongside all of the worthy winners for each category, our judges had several entries they wanted to pick out to give a special mention.
Daniel: Craig has created an amazing Dark Angels army with great conversions throughout, which give every marine a real Dark Angels vibe, the different aspects of the army are captured – from the Deathwing to Ravenwing. Brilliant work through and through!
Andy: Another Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game entry here from Phil, which is a stunning display overall. There's a really high quality of painting combined with creative use of the Lake Town scenery and miniatures. I especially liked the use of LED lighting, which makes it all really atmospheric.
Adam: This entry caught my eye, in part because of the really inspiring journey that this army has been through, from raising money for charity to getting loads of different artists from around the world to work on it. Congratulations on everything that you and your gaming club achieved!
A tiny terrarium full of Gnomes is such a unique and awesome way of presenting a Blood Bowl Team! The creative thinking that went into Adrijano’s entry is especially inspiring! I think that it really captures the more off-kilter spirit of Blood Bowl. Congratulations on a fantastic entry.
James O: Wow, what a presentation! I love the board and it being Warhammer World itself.* The effort put into this and the backdrop alone is outstanding before you even get onto the army itself. Stefano has created a great army with an equally impressive display.
Next up is this impressive entry, that recreates an incredible iconic piece of John Blanche artwork that graced the cover of the box for the third edition of Warhammer 40,000. The display and level of painting by Oliver is great but really, it’s the fantastic attention to detail which captures lots of iconic vignettes from the cover that take it over the edge – I Love it!
Ed: Alexander’s Soulblight Army features a huge number of miniatures painted very thematically to a high level with a smartly designed stepped display board that really helps show off every single miniature.
James L: A riotously feculent Garden of the Nurgle stuffed with miniatures! Lynsey has produced some stunning work which masterfully incorporates painting miniatures with diorama design, to create an overwhelming tribute to the Grandfather.
And that’s it for another Armies on Parade, but don’t worry if you’re still eager to make the podium with your own masterpiece – we’ll be back next year with an even bigger and better competition, so watch out for details in January. Until then!
