Golden Demon at SPIEL Essen 2024 – The Commended Entries, Part 2

We have already spent hours poring over the latest winners from the European leg of this year’s Golden Demon, which took place at SPIEL in Essen, Germany. We’ve seen the first batch of commended entries, so here are the rest.

Warhammer: The Horus Heresy

Entries for The Horus Heresy category can be anything from Primarchs to squads, dreadnoughts, tanks, and beyond.

Warhammer: The Old World

The Old World category features entries from the broad history of this Warhammer fantasy setting.Old

Middle-earth™ Strategy Battle Game

For the Middle-earth™ category, painters bring to life characters and creatures from the world of JRR Tolkien.

Blood Bowl

The Blood Bowl category is all about capturing the fresh-cut-grass-and-blood smell of the gridiron with perfect painting.

Necromunda

Necromunda is the perfect category for painters to flex their muscles on something a little different.

Epic Scale

With the release of Legions Imperialis, there are now more options than ever for the Epic Scale category – even smaller models for people to paint even more mind-boggling details on.

Diorama & Duel

Diorama & Duel have now been condensed into a single category where entrants can flex their storytelling muscles alongside their painting skills, capturing a slice of their favoured setting in a perfectly composed scene.

Youngbloods

Every year, the Youngbloods category blows us away. These under-16 entrants produce award-winning miniature works of art to a phenomenal standard.

The Open Competition

Finally, the Open Competition is a separate competition within Golden Demon, and as such even the winners can’t claim the Slayer Sword. It’s open to Warhammer staff, and a wide variety of pieces of all sizes and styles compete against each other.

That’s it for this year’s commended entities. The standard was as high as ever this year, and these are just a fraction of the incredible miniatures that were on display in the cabinets at SPIEL Essen. You can check out all of the winners via the button below.
