Katophrane Chronicle: Morgok’s Krushas and Morgwaeth’s Blade-coven Tactica

Aman Khusro has returned! A veteran deck-builder and tournament mastermind, this time Aman is on hand to show you how to make the most of the latest Warhammer Underworlds warbands with a pair of deadly decks.

Aman: Hi everyone, I’m back to discuss the final two warbands from the Beastgrave season – Morgok’s Krushas and Morgwaeth’s Blade-coven. Today, we’ll be taking a look at how both of these warbands perform in the current meta.

Morgwaeth’s Blade-coven is a long-awaited faction in the Underworlds and, true to their theme, they play exactly how you’d imagine – striking hard and fast. While there’s been a lot of experimentation with the warband, I have found two very successful primary builds.

The first one is a hard aggro build. Stack up on accuracy cards like Bloodscent, Perfect Precision, Zealot’s Rage, and Crimson Shard to make sure you can cut down your foes consistently.

You’ll also want to take some weapons that can act as glory multipliers, such as the Amberbone Sword, Amberbone Mace, and Amberbone Spear. Keep in mind that your fighters are fragile, so take some damage-mitigation cards as well, such as Fanatical Faith and Potion of Constitution to ensure these blood-stained zealots can stay in the fight.

The second build is more of an objective/aggro build that scores quick glory via objective Surge play like Hidden Purpose and Glorious Triumph. Pushes are your friend here, so consider Two Steps Forward and Sidestep. Once you’ve got that glory, stack it on some of the weapon upgrades mentioned above to ensure maximum carnage.

A special shoutout goes to your two strongest fighters: Morgwaeth and Kyrae. The former, as your leader, is perhaps your most important fighter due to her Inspire reaction. Keep her protected and tool her up – she’s your main damage dealer and can single-handedly take out entire warbands. The latter is perhaps the best archer we’ve seen in the game yet. Give her Fighter’s Ferocity and Gloryseeker, and chuckle in glee as she melts her foes from a distance.

Morgok’s Krushas share a similarly aggressive theme, but have a key advantage due to the fact that each of them have 5 Wounds. This makes them extremely tanky and can ensure they can brawl well into the late stages of the game. The key to their success is generating as many Waaagh! tokens as efficiently as you can, while also making sure you spend them wisely. After all, it takes a proper Waaagh! to ensure a good krumpin’.

The most obvious build is one that relies on an objective-focused advance while still engaging with your opponent aggressively. These guys have the ability to get some quick glory via Got It, Boss, Now Wot?, and Hidden Purpose. Once you're ready to unleash their primal fury, use cards like Brutal Attack and Strength of Terror to end the fight.

If you prefer a more kunnin’ approach with your orruks then you can also play a “tome” build with Acolyte of the Katophranes. This too relies on some easy glory generation via some reliable Surge objectives like Orruk Kunnin’ and Show of Force. Once you’ve got enough glory to put on some upgrades, look into some damage mitigation as well. While your fighters have a considerable amount of stamina, focused attacks can take them down – Berserk Fortitude and Inured to Pain are key here.

As you can see, both of these warbands have plenty of options in terms of how you want to pilot them. Either way, I believe you'll find success utilising any strategy and have loads of fun! Morgok’s Krushas are definitely a popular warband and for good reason, they hit hard and take even harder hits – they are the perfect aggro warband. I liken them to a sledgehammer. Morgaeth’s Blade-coven are more of a scalpel – they’re definitely a finesse warband. You have to pick your targets carefully and utilise their speed to out-position your opponent. Take advantage of their powerful gambits and fighters to do the heavy lifting. Once you find something that works for you, you’ll be singing praises to Khaine.

Thanks, Aman! You can order Morgwaeth’s Blade-coven and Morgok’s Krushas today.
