There is absolutely no way you haven’t heard about Spearhead by now. It’s the lightning-fast tactical version of Warhammer Age of Sigmar that plays with finely balanced forces right out of the box.
It’s had the whole team here hooked – the Battle Report gang have so far held a two-part Spearhead league and played a bout with one of the designers – and they’re still obsessed!
So this week Simon and Josh are back in the saddle, pitting the Vigilant Brotherhood against the Gnawfeast Clawpack. You’ll recognise these both Spearheads from the Skaventide boxed set – and the Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Ultimate Starter Set.
Si: Many a recent lunch break has rung to the sound of war in the Warhammer+ office as the presenters faced one another in glorious Spearhead combat. Everyone’s collective fervour for the format has not only seen us all enjoying regular gameplay, but also building up a huge collection of different Spearheads between us. This means we’ve got plenty of options to play with and against every game to keep things fresh.
My favoured Spearhead - the Nighthaunt Slasher Host - has seen mixed success so far. I’ve yet to emerge victorious over the mighty Sons of Behemat with them (may Nagash curse you, Josh!), but they’ve performed well in my other games so far. As it turned out, I played against the Gnawfeast Clawpack in both of my games in a recent evening event here in Warhammer World. Clearly my experience of using the sneaky Skaven in the Battle Report gave me a tactical edge, as I was able to win both games (including one against Josh!). Speaking of my newfound nemesis…
Josh: The hour of ruin is nigh, and the number of Skaven on this battlefield is too darn high! Only the Stormcast Eternals of the Vigilant Brotherhood can drive the rats back underground, so I picked up my Spearhead and set to work!
I’ve fought many battles against Si on the burning planes of Aqshy and across the verdant gardens of Ghyran. Our rivalry comes to a head in this Battle Report, as Si throws his lot in with the Great Horned Rat!
The Stormcast Spearhead has plenty of tricks up its golden sleeves. The Spearhead contains only the 10 miniatures from the Ultimate Starter Set but the Stormcast Eternals are able to deliver the God-King’s wrath wherever the enemy may strike. The Prosecutors are able to fly across the battlefield with their massive 12” move before throwing their Stormcall Javelins at any unsuspecting warpstone-addled rats. This game is a classic clash of lightning versus frightening so let’s make like thunder and strike!
Cheers guys! There’s plenty more to watch on Warhammer+ this week, as Loremasters opens the books on the Ruination chamber. These world-weary warriors are on the cusp of losing their identity forever thanks to the curse of immortality, but still valiantly fight against the forces of Chaos, Death and Destruction in their final moments – you can watch the episode to find out even more about them.
The Citadel Colour Masterclass is also chipping in with some great advice on how to paint duardin beards this week, with techniques that can be applied both to Fyreslayers and those duardin who fight for the Cities of Sigmar, and anything other that’s suitably hirsute.
You can watch all of this and plenty more right now as part of a Warhammer+ subscription. If you subscribe for a year, you will also get the choice of one of two awesome free miniatures.
